I like quality equipment but I'm a cheapskate too. So I purchased the "used" unit from the "factory reconditioned" page (as I understand it this means it was returned to the factory, reconditioned, offered at $115, purchased by someone, then returned again, then offered again as "used" at $102 (condition indicated as "Used - Like New") and finally sold to me. Hey, I've been doing Amazon business long enough to know that even this far down the ownership chain, I'm risking nearly nothing as long as it is fulfilled by Amazon.
It arrived in less than 48 hours (thanx Amazon Prime!) in a pristine plain cardboard box sporting a "factory reconditioned" sticker. However there is nothing else about this unit or its packaging that would indicate it was anything but brand-spankin' new. I was convinced to save some money on this "re-certified" oven, after reading the reviews. I have saved money on refurbs before, on lots of things.
For those that got "Like-New" units, that is awesome for you. I got one with bad finish defects all over, looks like something black touched the finish when it was hot, and got burned on, all over the thing. Also many small dents and scratches.
It was also pretty dirty, to include crumbs still stuck to the grate, and food stains on the front. The stains looked like they could be cleaned off, but I shouldn't have to, and it shows that it wasn't cleaned in the "Re-certification Process". It had a small sticker on the bottom that said "Cleaned by: SC / Tested by AD" it clearly had not been cleaned, makes me doubt it was thoroughly tested.
I returned mine, and am buying a new one.
I will never buy a Breville refurb again, this thing is nasty, and SOOOOO not worth the savings.

I was little hesitant to buy this item from the reviews, but I figured I could always send it back if I got a bad one. Luckily I received the item in perfect condition. I replaced my toaster and toaster oven with this bad boy. It works as well as everyone claims a breville does. The toast does come out a bit lighter on the bottom side but since the center of the bread still stays moist it is the best toast I've ever made. I didn't really realize you could make better toast but you can. I made the kids a totinos pizza and it was way better than it comes out of my regular oven, the bottom was actually crispy. We made brownies (which I've never done in a toaster oven) and they were once again perfectly cooked. Just be sure you are moving the rack to the position it recommends and you'll be good to go. Now i'm off to find other things to cook in it :)

This reconditioned juicer works well and provides a speedy glass of juice in seconds. It's got a satin nickel finish which also looks good on my countertop. It has few parts and all are easily detached and can be cleaned in the dishwasher top rack. You can also line the pulp catcher with a plastic grocery bag to catch all the pulp and then throw it away. The feed chute is fairly large and you can put a whole decent sized tomato or a small apple down it pretty easily. So it saves you chopping time. This juicer has 2 speeds - slow for softer fruits and veggies and high for harder veggies. The italian wire mesh spins at a very high rate and vegetable turn to juice and fine pulp in seconds. You are not supposed to run this juicer more than 3-4 minutes at a stretch but that's ok as it is so fast that in 3 minutes you could probably get through several pounds of veggies. Received three of these. First one looked beautiful but leaked all over the place. Second one arrived with dried food crud and a sticky base. Third one was sticky and had a moldy blade/filter. Breville didn't return phone calls or emails for one month. CSR representative was worthless. Amazon was great and accepted two returns for replacement. The juices these machines produce are very good and if you clean them immediately, that is easy to do. I can imagine that if you don't immediately clean them, they end up like the second one I received, with crust embedded and a clogged filter. This is a product that I wouldn't recommend buying in a "reconditioned" condition because Breville clearly lacks in the Quality Control area of their reconditioning center. Customer Service really doesn't exist -- I've never waited for a month after numerous attempted contacts with a company by phone and email, then to be told that they return every call. This juicer far exceeded my expectations. I chose Breville over the Jack Lalanne juicer because I heard bad reviews about Jack Lalanne's juicer. I had a champion juicer that a friend gave me to use, which is an industrial type juicer. The champion was a good juicer, but I was only able to juice a few things before I had to pull it apart and clean it out. With the Breville, I can juice several things before it requires cleaning. You can actually fill up the juice catcher before it needs to be cleaned. The only con about the machine is that you can only juice hard pieces of fruit/vegetables for 4 minutes, then you have to give it a 1-2 minute break before you can juice more. That's no problem though if you're like me and don't juice a lot of hard fruits, or vegetables. Other than that, this machine works better than a champion. It also has a very large neck, so you can juice an entire apple without having to cut it up. It's terrific! I am so happy with my purchase!
